April 8th, 2022

Patience might just be a lost art. At least for now it seems this way.

The last fifteen years has brought instant gratification to our fingertips.
In the 1970’s if I wanted to see a naked lady I had to come across a misplaced Playboy or Penthouse magazine….
…..and a misplaced nudie magazine was the holy grail of boobies and pubic hair.
Later on in life you could go down to Maxwell Street and buy a porno on Beta or VHS. My dad had a beta player so the selection of Rated X movies was limited.
Just remember to take the tape out when you're done… my dad found “Never so Deep” in his Beta player one Sunday morning and I was suddenly pulling weeds and cleaning out the garage.
Cablevision of Oak Park offered the Playboy Network on channel 136 in the late 1980’s, but you had to pay extra.
I don’t need to finish this paragraph…. We all watched soft porn with the wiggly video… the audio was excellent, but it was a sex scene painted by Van Gogh.
Today my son who is a sophomore in high school can Google "Boobies" and see 100,000 pairs of breasts in two seconds!
I had several packages delivered this week with Amazon. The boxes were waiting for me when I got home.
How easy is that?
Though I missed out on the experience of driving over to North Riverside Mall or Riding my bike to Glendale Mall.
Kids will never know how cool it is to spend their Lawn mower/snow shovel money on an Orange Julius. This next generation will never pull a vibrator out of the box at Spencer Gifts and stick it in their friends ear.
Instant gratification…. We have lost the art of patience.
Since we moved our trading floor out to the suburbs I have had lunch at my desk. Everyday someone has delivered my lunch. We just order on an app.
I’ll never have a chance to sneak off the floor for a quick break. I’ll never dodge raindrops under the el tracks for a cheeseburger at The BillyGoat.
All these errands and life events are all lost traditions.
The malls are all shuttered. The trading pits are all ripped out and restaurants in the Loop are boarded up and covered in graffiti.
Biff Tannen actually hijacked Doc’s DeLorean and mucked things up…..
Luckily it’s baseball season. The Cubbies won their opener yesterday and The Go Go White Sox open up today in Detroit Rock City!
Play well today Gentlemen…..
Don’t forget tomorrow is “Buy a Coffee Cake for Someone Dear to You Day.”
