January 5th, 2024

I saw this quote and thought about a wedding we were invited to when George was about six months old.

We brought George to the church for the ceremony and had a babysitter lined up later for the dinner.
I was holding Georgie in my arms when we walked into the church. He was fussy and there was no crying room at this parish, so we tried our best to calm him down.
I burped my big boy and seconds later the reason that he was so fussy was stretched across the lapel of my suit coat. My baby boy had an upset tummy and just needed to vomit a light load of curdling milk onto his daddy.
His mom winged a cloth diaper to me and I preceded to clean the white phlegm from my navy suit. I just made it worse and the result was a stain that resembled South America.
I could have changed into another suit, but the wedding and the babysitter’s house were both thirty miles from home. I was stuck with Peru, Argentina and Brazil for the rest of the night.
Through cocktails, dinner and dancing I wore the badge of humility on my lapel. I was awarded the honour of “The Humble Order of Fatherhood” by Prince George.
I have always wanted to be knighted or made a Sir by Queen Elizabeth, but looking back, this had more meaning and was a perfect lesson in humility.
A dried glob of flaky white phlegm was worth more to me than any Grand Cross of Knighthood.
Happy first Friday of January. A Friday that will be dry for many of you Chalkheads. Good Luck!
Enjoy your weekend and stay warm taking down those decorations that we have enjoyed these last six or seven weeks.
Time to go make Baby George his breakfast and lunch… Be kind and humble this weekend.
