September 5th, 2023

Today is National Telephone Day… I saw this piece on “CBS Sunday Morning” about a guy who nailed an old kitchen wall telephone to a tree.

The tree was on a path deep in a dense forest. The phone had a small shed like roof over it and a note to the side.
The note explained that this phone was connected to heaven and you can talk to loved ones who have passed away.
I thought this was a wonderful way for people to deal with the grief left by the loss of someone dear. All you have to do is go for a hike for a couple miles and find the phone tree.
I think every Forest Preserve in Cook County needs a phone tree placed off the beaten path. Could you imagine if there was a phone near Bachelor’s Grove? Google “Bachelor’s Grove” if you’re not from Chicagoland.
I actually have my parents numbers still on my cell phone speed dial. I could probably talk to them without hiking off into the forest.
I saved some of their last voice messages. I’ll occasionally listen to those just to hear my parents voices. I have a good one of my dad on Christmas morning. He wishes me a Happy Christmas, tells me he’s proud of me and to make sure I hung up my Santa Suit.
Labor Day is in the rearview mirror. Put the white pumps back in the shoe box and have your damn pumpkin spice latte.
I hate short weeks… they are a mind fuck. I try to be more careful during short weeks and not get tripped up. Take deep breaths and fall back into the routine.
Rugby World Cup starts this weekend and so does the NFL season. Cue up The Pointer Sisters because I’m about to lose control and I think I like it……
