An older gentleman sat down at the breakfast table next to mine.
Just a Chicago guy juggling fatherhood and bachelorhood. An old trading floor broker raising three kids and living in a flat by the river. These stories are life lessons meant to make you laugh, cry, and think. The “Chalkboard” is my daily post, scribbled on the blackboard in my kitchen—a ritual, a bit of therapy, and a small win to start the day. All Chalkheads are welcome to ride along.

A year away from the Loop
(I wrote this on October 13th, 2020. It was the last Tuesday that I called Chicago the place I worked in.... after over 30 years on the trading floor)

If you don’t win the last game of the season you’re still a loser… 10-1 and the end of a roller coaster season. Thanks White Sox!
Today’s quote is credited to Robin Williams….
…… I’d take out the word madness and replace it with passion. Never loose that spark of passion that you were born with!Passion gets you through happiness, love, pain and despair!
It’s good to have love in your heart, but love doesn’t grow without PASSION!

BB King and a couple white boys with jumper cables.
In March of 1986 I was an invincible 19 year old at a BB King show in Merrillville... my buddy and I left the show and parked next to us was a sedan with the hood up and three older black men underneath. “You boys got jumper lines?” we replied that we did and jumped their car.
The power of Bloggers and Movie actors
On a rainout Monday when the Go Go White Sox should have carried their momentum into game four of the playoff series against a very strong Houston Astros, we were introduced to WSD or White Sox Dave.
I'm a White Sox fan, a well read fan who knows stats and current players and a strong knowledge of Palehose history. I don't know if I should be embarrassed or proud to admit that I never heard of White Sox Dave! Like most of the sports world I was introduced to him when he video blogged his confrontation with actor John Cusack.
Cusack doesn't know we've been buddies since he played "Gib" in "The Sure Thing." He comes from Evanston and Jeremy Piven's family theater program. He and I were born the week before fourth of July weekend in 1966.
I'll admit I was a little jealous when "Gib" was sitting in the premiere seats during the Cubbies 2016 World Series year. He won me back when I found out he was supporting the Sox during this years play off run.
This is Chicago.... we have TWO teams! It is proper to Love one and Hate the other, but if we have friends that love "the other team" we don't need to hate them! We argue with them, we root against them during the Crosstown, but we don't wish them ill feelings!
I got on the Lake Street elevated at Ridgeland Avenue in the late seventies and either stayed on it all the way down the Ryan line to 35th street (they were connected until the early 1990's when the Howard/Dan Ryan was formed) or I'd transfer in the Loop and get on a Northbound Howard. I went to both ballparks with lawnmower money in my pocket. Cusack has every right to do the same thing. This week he is a Cub fan rooting for the Sox. Just like when I went to Wrigley rooting against Pete Rose and the Reds or Mike Schmidt and the Phillies!
Now who the hell is White Sox Dave? He's a Sports Blogger and one of Dave Portnoy's "Yes men." He symbolizes the downward spiral of journalism and the rise of Mealy mouth know it all's.
Oh how I miss the days of "The Sportswriters on TV" when sports journalism was respected through men like Bill Jaus, Rick Telander, Bill Gleason and Ben Bentley. White Sox Dave is David Williams from Warrenville, Illinois. He played some baseball at North Central College before he got the attention of Barstool Sports. We've gone from four seasoned veterans with a deep knowledge of sports to a drunk kid from suburban Rockford who has Google!
Let's focus on a White Sox victory today and a trip to Houston! I hope the Gentleman with the voodoo cane casts his spell on the Houston Bats this afternoon! I sure as hell hope John Cusack is sitting in Mayor Daley's seats with a Sox hat, a boom box from "Say Anything" and maybe even Steve Bartman sitting next to him!

Today’s quote is from Jon Gruden… on the same day he resigned because of 10 year old emails with homophobic and racist slurs I used homophobic and racist slurs in a satirical post.

“You’re just Going through the motions!!!”
Heard that many times as a kid…. From coaches, teachers, my parents!I go through the motions at work and I get fired…. Go through the motions around my kids and they grow up pieces of shit…. Go through the motions In marriage and you end up…. Well…… happy in The DDD of Riverside!
Don’t be like me though…. Work hard everyday and keep faith in your marriage, go on dates, wear fun underwear and smiles!
Bear down Chicago Bears! Tits up Chicago White Sox!
If you’re carving pumpkins…. Coat the inside with Pam spray and cayenne…. It doesn’t kill the critters and it’s hilarious watching the squirrels with a face full of Cajun fire!

When I was in 7th grade I had to rake the leaves in my Gramma’s yard. She had a small house in Broad Ripple, but it had huge trees in the front and back.

Beatles “in my Life” was the first song of the morning…. Not a bad way to start off the day.
I’m getting tired of putting clouds up in the right hand corner and I’m not to happy that the sunset is well before the “wheel of fortune.”
Not sure why this quote grabbed my attention…. Maybe it’s a reminder that I shouldn’t feel sorry for myself. Someone is envious of my position in life.
It also says that caring for others and worrying about them shows character… strong character!
The Boston Wag Sox won last night… I’m sure the new guy in heaven had his share of victory beer!
