I forgot to park Betty the Green Blazer when I got home yesterday. So at the last minute I went back out and put her in her assigned Riverside parking spot.
As I was walking back down the block I noticed one of my neighbors standing on the sidewalk anxiously smoking his cigarette. His hand was shaking as he removed his smoke from his mouth.
In my gregarious manner I said, “Anthony you magnificent son of a bitch! How was your winter?”
Now last fall I noticed his kids weren’t playing up the block and his wife wasn’t parking in front unloading groceries like she did almost daily.
He had gone through a split up just before the darkness of winter was about to set in.
Anthony was out smoking his cigarette and I was parking my truck at the same time for a reason. Anthony needed some JumboLove…
We shot the shit for fifteen minutes and when we parted Anthony had a smile on his face and felt a little better.
Now I’m not posting this so everyone can give my an “atta boy” or tell me how wonderful that I am…
I already know that baby!
The moral of the Holy Thursday story is that our purpose is to care for people. Make their lives Mo Betta’ and spread love through the dark days of the 2020’s.
This poor bastard is going through a hard period. Shit, I’m just a few years removed from that same dark place myself.
I could have left Betty out on the street and chanced a parking ticket, but I haphazardly left her there for a reason.
I needed to walk past Anthony and throw a positive current into his heart.
Everyday I’m getting closer to seeing my parents again. I need to leave a path of kindness so I don’t get held up at the customs gate in heaven.
I want to walk straight into the Eternal Kingdom and get a cheeseburger at the Gossage Grill with my dad. Go to mass with my mom and gramma and finally get a chance to hear Frank Sinatra.
There are reasons why we are at the right place at the right time and there is a reason why the rearview mirror is smaller than the Front windshield.
The future is more important than the past.
Enjoy this brisk sunny Friday.
