May 9th, 2025

    That was a whirlwind of a Thursday…

We were all floored that an American was selected as the predecessor to Saint Peter, let alone the fact that he was a Chicago guy.
“Pope from Chicago” memes went rampant on the internet and in text messages. I’ll admit that I took part in the fun and games. In fact, an AI generated photo that I made was copied and pasted by several. I’ve already seen it on Twitter posted by someone that I don’t even know.
At first, the Northside was a buzz that our new Pontiff bleeds Cubby Blue. It was later reported that the new Pope from Chicago is a Chicago White Sox fan.
All shits And giggles to the side…
The new Pope gives us a restart. His papacy is a rebirth that we must inherit. It is an opportunity to reinvent ourselves and our relationship with the Holy Spirit.
For those of us that have been strangers to the Eucharist, this is our chance to bring the body and blood of the skinny Jewish kid back into the routine.
I cried tears of joy when the announcement was made. I haven’t felt this blessed since the Polish Prince, Saint JP2 wore the white beanie.
The f’ing Pope is a Southsider and many of us are just a degree or two from knowing him.
No memes today… just prayers.
Prayers that bless the new Holy Father to have the strength and faith to carry Saint Peter’s foundation into the middle of the century. May his church bring together and not divide. May his word be heard around the world as one of peace and love…
…and may he return to his hometown during his papacy to throw out the first pitch for the Crosstown World Series. Wearing a Sox cap over his zucchetto.
We heard Leo speak in Italian, Spanish and Latin yesterday. I can’t wait for that first blessing in Chicagonese!
Have a blessed day Chalkheads…
