I've been doing Jumbo Claus for thirty years. Those first kids that I visited are in their mid thirties now. Last night I went to a Presbyterian church that hosted families that were facing tough times.
Just a Chicago guy juggling fatherhood and bachelorhood. An old trading floor broker raising three kids and living in a flat by the river. These stories are life lessons meant to make you laugh, cry, and think. The “Chalkboard” is my daily post, scribbled on the blackboard in my kitchen—a ritual, a bit of therapy, and a small win to start the day. All Chalkheads are welcome to ride along.

I’ve always thought that a sport coat can be worn a couple times before you bring it to the cleaners. There was a time in my life when I’d grab my blue blazer out of the closet and find a few cocktail straws in the pockets.

Yesterday marked the third heavenly birthday of a kid I knew from Indianapolis. This guy had a rough go of things during the last few years of his life. His health was poor, but he kept going.

There is a funeral this week in the same church that I was married in. Many of the people that will be there Thursday were at that wedding. It will probably be the first time many of them will be together again at that church.

I wrote this quote down thinking I could come up with a motivational chalkboard today. Then I sat down and thought about the first weekend of December and the magic that it brings.
