“A thing of beauty is a joy forever.”
Beauty has a way of
staying with us long after the moment has passed. A song brings back a room. A
familiar smell brings back a kitchen. A photograph returns us to people we
would give anything to sit next to again.
Today’s grabber is Chewing Gum Day, which
brings the lofty business of beauty down to the checkout counter at White Hen.
There is something wonderfully ordinary about a stick of gum. Unwrap it, and
suddenly you might remember a baseball dugout, a school hallway, or a long ride
in the back seat.
The crumby thing about getting old. I don’t
have a favorite stick of gum. I need to do that before the end of the year,
find a new go to pack of gum.
