June 3rd, 2025

Have you ever wondered why I put the sunrise and sunset times for Riverside, Illinois on the Morning Chalkboard? Many of you Chalkheads live in different time zones, with different shadows stretching across your lives.

The moon, the sun, the shadows....
I need to know where they are and when they fall every day of the year. I like my routine and I like to keep my life unkept neatly.
Since the weekend, I have been sleeping on the couch, I didn't go to work yesterday, and I am answering questions constantly that don't need to be asked.
One of these assclowns left the kitchen light on and didn't refill the Brita at some point over night. I need not ask who it was because I already know it will be "Notme" Shepley. I woke up to my computer barking a block trade in palm oil at 2:33, noticed the freaking light was on and needed a glass of water from an empty pitcher.
No need to go back to the couch now... I'm up.
Up to a routine that isn't necessarily the one that I adhere to.
But I do know the sun will rise at 5:17 this morning. It will cast some short shadows and daylight will stretch cocktail time close to bedtime... or this week, couch time.
I like to keep my eye on the moon as well. The moon has been fattening up the last couple days.
Next week we get the last full moon of spring. Being the closest to the summer solstice, the moon is going to travel low along the southern sky. Next Tuesday evening, as the sun is setting, the moon will be burning brightly as it rises over Lake Michigan on the southside. You will still get a chance to see the Strawberry moon well into Wednesday morning.
Now my computer is telling me that soybean oil puts are being crossed. The markets never sleep.
Time to go balance this year’s grain crop and my three perfect and wonderful offspring, the passions of my loins.
Get out there.
Cast a short shadow on the world.
Find your astonishment.
Look at the moon...
...and just think, someone you love, far away, can see the same moon.
It’s like phone sex, but lunar.
